Formal Testing
The Diploma will be awarded to those who demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge of their chosen module(s) through a combination of workplace exercises and written examination.
Candidates will be eligible for testing at any time between 3 months and 24 months from their date of enrolment. They should work through each Module at their own pace and only apply to be assessed when they believe they are ready for it. Candidates will be expected to complete the programme within 24 months but may, in special circumstances, be granted an extension to that period at the discretion of the Standards Committee.
To cut down on unnecessary travelling for Candidates, and minimise disruption for employers, examinations will be held at regional centres around the UK. Testing will take place twice each year and Candidates may choose which date and location they wish to attend.
Formal testing costs £40.00 plus VAT per module.
Work-Placed Exercises
Each Module includes a Workbook which should be completed in advance of the
examination.
However, Candidates who enrol in our Distance Learning Programme will also be
able to download Self-Test questions which are posted on our website each month.
This will enable the candidate to test his or her knowledge of each Module
and the progress being made. In this way Candidates will be able to judge when
they are ready to take the written examination.
The Workbook and Self-Test questions are not particularly onerous and we
estimate that it would take no more than 5 hours for a reasonably competent
person to complete them.
The Workbooks and/or Self-Test results will be assessed at the time of
examination will contribute up to 20% of the marks available in each Module.
Written Examination
We appreciate that many people will be nervous taking a written examination and will do our best to reduce tension by creating a relaxed atmosphere.
Candidates will be asked to demonstrate their knowledge by answering around 25 questions on each chosen Module.
In each case there is a “model” answer to each question against which the Candidate’s answer will be compared. The scoring method is as follows:
- 5 points, for an answer matching or exceeding the model.
- 3 points, for an answer that mainly matches the model but with small omissions.
- 1 point, for an answer that contains some elements of the model but with considerable omissions.
- 0 points, for an answer that is completely off target.
The written examination will contribute up to 80% of the marks available in each Module.
