Qualification Syllabus
The broad terms “flooring” and “floorcoverings” include a wide variety of products from concrete and marble through to wood and carpets and rugs. Initially, the scope of the Qualification will focus on the more popular domestic products.
Many salespeople specialise in one or two product areas and therefore the Qualification syllabus is modular to reflect the products they sell rather than those they do not.
There are currently 7 modules available and Candidates may choose the one, or ones, in which they want to be assessed.
- Module 1: Understanding Carpets
- Module 2: Understanding Ceramics
- Module 3: Understanding Laminates & Wood
- Module 4: Understanding Linoleum & Vinyl
- Module 5: Understanding Rugs
- Module 6: Understanding and Selling with Colour
- Module 7: Understanding Measuring & Planning
Each of the above is a general heading and is divided into various sections. Rugs, for example, are broken down into machine-made and hand-made, with further sub-divisions for more detailed classifications.
For each of these products the Qualification includes, where appropriate, knowledge of:
- Product types and constructions
- Materials used
- Production methods
- Maintenance
- Measuring & Planning
- Installation
